Thanksgiving

The last few weeks have been very busy! We are reading Wonder, learning how to multiply multi-digit numbers, researching the regions of the United States, writing an informational 5 paragraph essay, and so much more! Today we took some time to have some fun!

We practiced and performed some Thanksgiving themed plays.

We built snowmen at recess!

And, our class pet (Yogi, the Guinea Pig) came home to his "vacation cottage" for the 5 days we have off.

4th grade rocks!!!

A busy week!

This has been a busy week in our classroom! Our class pet, a Guinea pig named Yogi, moved into our room this week.  He has been vacationing at my house over the summer, and is so excited to be back!
Our hallway isn't so bare anymore.  Next week it will be even more decorated because all of the 4th graders goal posters are due on Wednesday. We are beginning with the end in mind at this Leader in Me school!

We had our Big/Little Leaders meeting today, and we taught our first grade friends how to buddy read.
We even did some buddy reading with each other. EEKK = elbow to elbow, knee to knee.
This is such a great class! I can't wait for all of the adventures we will have this year!

Back to School

A brand new school year is underway! This is my 15th year teaching in Wayne Westland, and I still LOVE the beginning of a new school year! The freshly sharpened pencils, new boxes of crayons, and empty notebooks make me excited to teach all of these bright-eyed 4th graders! It's only the first week, but I'm already in love with my new class! It's going to be a great year!!!

Bat Webinar

Today we did a Webinar and learned all about bats. There are many different species of bats. Different species of bats eat different things. Some bats eat fruit, others eat small rodents, and others eat nectar from flowers. Little brown bats, that are common in Michigan, eat insects. Not all bats use echolocation, but bats that eat insects do. A common myth about bats is that they are blind, however that's not true.

Pumpkin Book Character

Each classroom chose a book character and decorated a pumpkin like that character. Our class voted, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid won. I think it turned out really cute! The students get to vote for their favorite pumpkin this week.

Metacognition

Working on metacognition while we're reading. You know, what you're thinking in your while you read. That internal conversation with your book is what helps you comprehend what you're reading.

Remer's Reading Rock Stars

As we start week 2, our routine is starting to set in. We've talked about choosing books that are at our level, worked on building reading stamina, setting realistic reading goals, writing personal narratives, using place value to identify the value of a  digit within a number, writing numbers in expanded form, standard form, & word form, and talked about the 7 Habits. Wow! We've been busy! Open House is on Tuesday from 6:00-7:00 pm.
